Position Summary
The Board Vice-Chairperson will serve as a key leader on The STE(M)² Hub’s Board of Directors, supporting the Chairperson in guiding the organization’s strategic direction, governance, and community impact. This individual will play a critical role in fostering collaboration among board members, building strong relationships with community stakeholders, and advancing the organization’s mission.
As a volunteer position, this role is ideal for someone with a passion for equity in STEM and Medicine, strong leadership abilities, and a desire to make a meaningful difference in underrepresented communities.
Key Responsibilities

Leadership Support: Assist the Chairperson in setting agendas, facilitating board meetings, and ensuring the effective operation of the board. Step-in and lead when the Chairperson is unavailable.

Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Chairperson, Treasurer, and Executive Director to develop and implement the organization’s strategic goals and initiatives.

Community Engagement: Act as an ambassador for The STE(M)² Hub by building and maintaining relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders.

Governance: Ensure the board fulfills its fiduciary responsibilities and adheres to best practices in nonprofit governance.

Advocacy: Advocate for the organization’s mission by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM and Medicine.

Succession Planning: Work closely with the Chairperson to identify and mentor future board leadership.

Event Participation: Actively participate in The STE(M)² Hub’s events, initiatives, and fundraising efforts.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

Passion for the Mission: A strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM and Medicine.

Leadership Experience: Proven experience in a leadership or governance role, preferably within a nonprofit, academic, or corporate setting.

Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and build consensus among stakeholders.

Strategic Thinking: A forward-thinking, data-driven mindset with the ability to guide long-term organizational planning.

Communication Skills: Strong public speaking, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

Knowledge of STEM/Medicine: Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities faced by underrepresented communities in these fields (preferred but not required).

Board Experience: Prior experience serving on a board of directors is a plus but not mandatory.
Time Commitment

Attend monthly board meetings (virtually or in person).

Complete annual board member training (virtually or in person).

Participate in committee work as needed (e.g., fundraising, governance, or strategic planning committees).

Dedicate an estimated 8-10 hours per month to board responsibilities, including preparation, meetings, and outreach activities.
